Itinerary
4-Day Mount Meru Climb — Day by Day
Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate in Arusha National Park (approx. 1 hour). Begin trek with an armed ranger escort through lush montane forest — spot colobus monkeys, giraffes, and buffalo. Ascend to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m). Hike duration: 4-5 hours. Overnight: Miriakamba Hut. Meals: Lunch, Dinner.
Climb steadily through montane forest transitioning to moorland. Reach Saddle Hut (3,570m) by early afternoon. After lunch, acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) for panoramic views and preparation. Hike duration: 3-4 hours (plus 1-2 hours for Little Meru). Overnight: Saddle Hut. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Start before midnight (approx. 12:00 AM) for the final push to Mount Meru Summit (4,566m) via Rhino Point. Witness a spectacular sunrise over Kilimanjaro and the Rift Valley. Descend to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue down to Miriakamba Hut for the night. Total hike: 10-14 hours. Overnight: Miriakamba Hut. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Morning descent through the forest — final wildlife viewing opportunities. Exit at Momella Gate, receive certificates, and transfer back to Arusha arriving by early afternoon. Meals: Breakfast.
