Day Plan
Hour-by-hour overview
Depart Arusha at approximately 07:00 for the 45-minute drive to Arusha National Park. Enter via Momela Gate and meet your armed TANAPA ranger. Begin a 2–3 hour guided walking safari through montane forest, across open grasslands, and past the famous fig tree arch. Spot colobus monkeys, giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, and over 400 bird species.
Transfer to the Momella Lakes for a guided canoe safari (optional, additional cost). Paddle quietly across the alkaline lakes among hippos and flocks of flamingos. Herons, kingfishers, and fish eagles hunt along the shoreline while giraffes and buffalo often come to drink.
Enjoy a packed lunch at a scenic picnic spot near the lakes with views of Mount Meru. Mount Kilimanjaro is often visible on clear days.
Continue with a vehicle-based game drive around Ngurdoto Crater — known as Little Ngorongoro. Spot bushbuck, waterbuck, and more wildlife. Exit the park around 16:30 and drive back to Arusha, arriving around 17:00.
