Day Plan

Hour-by-hour overview

Depart Arusha at approximately 07:30 (or Moshi around 09:00) for the scenic drive to Materuni Village at 1,800m on Kilimanjaro's lower slopes. Meet your local Chagga guide for a briefing before starting the hike through coffee and banana plantations.
Hike approximately 40–60 minutes through lush vegetation to the stunning 90-metre Materuni Waterfall. The trail winds through coffee bushes, banana groves, and forest. At the falls, swim in the crystal-clear natural pool, take photos, and enjoy the cool mountain air.
Return to the village for a home-cooked Chagga lunch — typically banana stew (machalari), rice, vegetables, and fresh tropical fruit. The women of the village prepare the meal using local ingredients and traditional recipes.
Dive into the world of Chagga coffee. Pick ripe coffee cherries, then process them the traditional way — drying, roasting over an open fire, grinding with a mortar and pestle, and finally brewing your own cup of 100% organic Arabica coffee. Return to Arusha by approximately 16:30.
